One really solid release from either Apple or Adobe (and it will happen soon with Adobe, IMO) and MC will be swept to the side in two years time. Unless you're Apple or HP etc., the hardware glory days are over in this market segment. I just don't see how it can work in the long term if MC development is truly dependent on the revenue generated by their overpriced BOBs. But human nature is tough to fight, and when one guy has a black box for $1500 that does the same as another guy's for $7,500 the outcome is not good for the latter. I'm familiar with all the very sound arguments about how you make the hardware investment back in the billable hours to actual time spent ratio, and I agree. This should have been addressed by now, and probably six months ago. It also makes it more challenging for current users as we struggle with costs.

I realize that things will take time on the software side, but the lack of affordable HD monitoring for file based formats is going to keep new users from adopting MC. I'm sure it's meaningful for Avid employees, but not to me. Sorry if I appear to be obstinate in my opinion, but this is just corporate speak to me - and I've done a lot of videos for national sales meetings. It is the result of almost two years of work but, as Gary Greenfield is fond of saying, now the real work can begin. This new "Branding" is not marketing hype but a platform on which Avid can begin building the future. This is not the last step in the plan by any means, only the first. Does the fact it looks like a neatly arranged collection of childrens building blocks bode well for our future? The fluttering of all that cash rushing out of our pockets ) Since then DT has paid for itself here many times over and according to my ilock it's licence will never expire. Years a go, the whole video side of the Protools community breathed aĬollective sigh of relief when DigiTranslator was released (could have been OMF2 helped and the tool became something you did not dread having to use.

That was replaced with a free but only just functional First (for me) Post Conform at a cost of $1500 and it just read an EDL to allow Protools to recapture all the audio from tapes in a batch capture operation. Since before Avid and Protools joined at the hip there have always been programs to get from Avid (and other editing applications) to Protools. But DT has many more functions than just making Protools read OMF and AAF's
